Step 1: Lift O-Rings
Step 2: Use spare finger to open door.
Step 3: Set release trigger.
Our Tru-Catch Trap Instructions show just how easy it is to use this effective trap.
Step 1: Lift both O-rings to the top of the door.
Step 2: Use a spare finger to open the door.
Step 3: Once the door is opened fully, set the release trigger.
Place the variable release trigger (that's attached to the end of the rod running the length of the trap) slightly up for a heavy trigger setting, perpendicular for a medium setting, and slightly down for a light setting.
Your Tru-Catch trap is now set and ready for bait.
The animal you are trapping determines the baiting technique. However, you want to lure the animal by placing a small amount of bait four feet in front of the trap, then again one foot in front of the trap. Place a small amount of bait just inside of the door, and a 2 oz. portion just behind the trip pan. To find the right bait, see our list of animal trap bait.
Line your trap with several layers of newspaper. Many animals do not like walking on the steel wire (would you?). Newspaper doubles as a liner to catch any waste.
Many animals are skittish, so it is both smart and humane to cover your cage with a piece of cloth, tarp, fitted trap cover, or brush after you set the trap.
Wild animals can be vicious, hence the old phrase "mad as a caged animal." Wear gloves and keep your fingers away from the sides of the trap. Place an old blanket or towel under the cage if transporting by vehicle, and secure the cage so it doesn't slide around. This protects the animal from injury.
There are a couple of ways to release your catch:
1) If you have a single-door model trap, gently roll the trap over onto its top. The O-rings locking the door will slide down and release so the the door can open.
2) If you have a rear-door model trap, you can simply lift the rear door, making sure that you are not in the way of the escaping animal.
3) If you have a rear-door model trap, you can transfer the animal from the trap to an optional carrier in an upright position.
That's it, trappers. The Tru-Catch trap instructions make it simple for you to use this effective trap.
Happy Trapping!
